Walkways enhance upmarket estate

general
Conceptualised and developed to provide a quality lifestyle in a secure and natural environment, Dainfern Valley Estate is one of the most sought-after areas to own a home in the entire Johannesburg-Gauteng region. Situated just half an hour from the Johannesburg CBD, the estate offers wonderful walking trails along the meandering river, while the pavilion, which is centrally located, offers tennis and swimming facilities. The estate has direct access to Dainfern College (Grade 0-12) and is adjacent to the 819 265 ha Dainfern Golf Club, designed by Gary Player.

The 307 houses range from 400m2 which range from 900m2 and river area. Residents can enjoy the abundant wildlife on the manicured banks of the Jukskei River, including guinea fowl, leguan, ducks, catfish, porcupine, rabbits and magnificent bird life in beautiful open spaces within the estate. The access to these areas has been made easier for residents, however, with the inclusion of 3,7km of paved walkways. to in excess of 1 200m2 to 1 600m2 amongst 17 hectares of landscaped parkland

Style & Craft Paving was contracted to lay the paving at Dainfern Valley Estates. We started the project in November 2012, says Style & Craft Paving owner, Keith Turner. On top of the 5 259m2 of walkways currently in place, we have also been contracted to complete Vincent Park and the Green Belt, amounting to another 1,1km (1 439m2) of paving, he explains.

So far a total of 231 000 Cederberg PA pavers from Corobrik have been used in a Stretcher Bond pattern with another 63 600 pavers ordered to complete the next phase.

Turner notes that the Cederberg clay pavers are the pavers of choice for the estate; These had already been used on the walkways along some of the roads, and the quality of the pavers matches the beauty and upmarket nature of the estate.

Clay pavers are earthy and have a long life-span, and being clay with its inherent colour fastness and hard wearing nature, a decade later they look as good as the day they were laid. The Stretcher Bond pattern works well from a practical point of view as it looks neat, easily following the contour of the paths, and as Turner points out, once laid, Stretcher Bond pavers are aesthetically pleasing and give the impression of an elongated path. An added advantage is that there is no wastage of pavers. For future maintenance in the estate underneath the pathways, the clay pavers have the benefit of being able to be lifted and re-laid without any damage.

The success of the project can be measured by the responses from the users. On many occasions when I do site inspections at the estate I have walkers and joggers stopping and complementing us on great work and saying that the pavers have improved the look and quality of the paths. Turner concludes.
