Angels’ Care Early Childhood Development Centre Wins Prestigious International Architecture Award

Corobrik is proud to celebrate the success of the Angels’ Care Early Childhood Development Centre in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, which recently triumphed in its category at the International Union of Architects (UIA) and UN-Habitat Awards Programme. The awards were announced during a prestigious event in Cairo, Egypt, recognising sustainable architecture that addresses critical social challenges.

Designed by FGG Architects, the Angels’ Care Centre, which provides essential early childhood education and care for vulnerable children in the community, stands as a shining example of how thoughtful design can foster hope and opportunity. This remarkable project was made possible through a collaboration supported by Corobrik’s sponsorship, which included the donation of face bricks that played a pivotal role in creating a sustainable, durable, and inspiring learning space for the children.

A Model for Sustainable Design and Architecture Awards

The UIA and UN-Habitat Awards Programme honors projects that embody the principles of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and Angels’ Care exceeded expectations. Designed with the needs of the community and the environment in mind, the centre is a beacon of sustainable building practices.

The facility incorporates natural light, cross-ventilation, and energy-efficient systems to create an optimal learning environment for children. The use of locally sourced materials, including Corobrik’s durable clay bricks, was key to ensuring the building's low environmental footprint and long-lasting quality. Corobrik face bricks not only provide thermal efficiency and no maintenance but also contribute to a healthy indoor environment, crucial for young learners.

Building Brighter Futures

We believe that architecture is more than just construction; it is about building a future where communities thrive. Angels’ Care Early Childhood Development Centre exemplifies this ethos by prioritising the well-being and education of children while addressing sustainability challenges.

Winning the UIA and UN-Habitat Award not only highlights the importance of sustainable architecture but also shines a spotlight on the incredible work being done in South Africa. Angels’ Care is a testament to the positive impact that collaboration between architects, communities, and supporters like Corobrik can have.

This accolade is a moment of pride not just for the FGG Architectural team but also for the entire South African architectural and construction community. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this vision to life and look forward to supporting more projects that create a lasting legacy for future generations.
